We are delighted to welcome you to our lovely school.
Starting Reception is an exciting time for children, parents/carers and teachers alike. We know from experience that your children will settle quickly and happily and that you will soon feel part of the George Mitchell family.
Our Early Years provision has been consistently audited as excellent. Our children are nurtured, challenged and thoughtfully planned for, and they achieve a great deal in a short time.

All potential and confirmed new parents are welcome to visit us and meet key staff. We hold open mornings throughout the year and also welcome visitors on tours at any time. It’s a great way to see why we are as popular, successful and happy as we are.

Applying to Reception at George Mitchell
Most children start Reception full-time in September after their fourth birthday. If you do not think your child is ready to start school in September, they can start later. For example, if your child only turns 4 in August, you might decide to wait before sending them to school. But they must be in full time education by the time they reach ‘compulsory school age’.
Your child must start full-time education once they reach compulsory school age. This is on 31 December, 31 March or 31 August following their fifth birthday – whichever comes first. If your child’s fifth birthday is on one of those dates then they reach compulsory school age on that date.
